What are dental laminates?

If you’ve heard of no-prep veneers or ultra-thin veneers, then these are basically the same thing.

The attraction of dental laminates is that they are significantly thinner than dental veneers, meaning that only minimal tooth preparation is required before they can be fitted.

Fast, effective, and with the added bonus of requiring little-to-no enamel removal, laminate veneers are fully reversible should you ever change your mind.

–         Emax laminate veneers

If you’re doing thorough research on all the veneer options out there, one name you’re likely to come across is ‘Emax laminate veneers’.

Relatively new to the veneer scene– these are just another type of laminate veneer.

Crafted from lithium disilicate glass-ceramic, Emax laminate veneers are one of the lightest and thinnest options available. And whilst these features can have benefits – minimal tooth prep, fast fitting, etc – it’s important to remember that as a result of being uber thin, they can’t offer the same level of coverage.

So, if you suffer from severe staining or have more complex smile problems, it’s likely these won’t be quite the right solution for you.

–         Composite laminate veneers

Another name in the mix is composite veneers. Again, these are part of the same ‘laminate veneer’ family but in this instance, the veneer is made from a special composite resin.

This resin can either be layered directly onto the surface of the tooth by hand or be prefabricated before being bonded into place.

Either way, you’re guaranteed impressive (and fast) results.

Laminate veneers price

As with all cosmetic dental treatments, costs can vary greatly but you can generally expect to pay significantly less for laminate veneers than dental veneers.

Key factors that can influence the price you pay will include:

  • The material/type of laminate veneer you choose
  • The number of veneers required
  • The calibre and experience of the dental team carrying out the treatment

It’s important to only seek treatment from an experienced dental practice. One that not only has a proven track record, but is willing to provide you with a clear, accurate, and personalised quote for your care. And remember if a price seems too good to be true, it often is!

Can anyone get laminate veneers?

Yes, that’s the great thing, laminate veneers are suitable for almost anyone offering a fast and effective way to counter most minor tooth problems. This, combined with their more accessible price point, makes them a hugely popular option.

But there are a few downsides to consider. Notably, the fact they can only offer limited results. If you have more serious tooth problems, gaps, or misalignment, it’s likely they won’t offer the coverage needed.

Also, whilst relatively tough, laminate veneers are more susceptible to damage than traditional dental veneers and typically don’t last quite as long. With proper care and a good oral hygiene routine dental veneer can last at least 15 years – often much longer!
