Bridges and Dental Crowns FAQs

How long do dental bridges last?

Our treatment for dental bridges in London offers highly impressive and long-lasting results.

On average we’d expect our dental bridges to remain effective for a minimum of 5-15 years. However, by sticking to a good oral hygiene routine and committing to the appropriate care and maintenance, many patients enjoy results that last much longer than this.

To find out more about dental bridges and how they might work for you, get in touch with the team. We’ll gladly answer any questions – whether that’s about their longevity, upkeep, or anything else that’s worrying you. We’re here to help.

What’s the difference between crowns and bridges?

Often used together, there can be confusion about the distinction between crowns and bridges.

Put simply, a crown is used to cover over an existing tooth (think of it like your tooth wearing a crown, hence the name) and works by placing a cap on an existing tooth to cover over any damage without the need for extraction.

A bridge is used to fill the space caused by a missing tooth (it ‘bridges’ the gap). Typically, a bridge will be used to fill the space where a tooth has been lost and a crown will then be placed on the tooth at either side to help anchor the bridge into place and ensure a balanced natural smile.

If you think you may require dental bridges, London residents and people from all over the UK trust the exceptional skill of our cosmetic dentist. Why not join them? Contact the team today.

Are dental bridges painful?

The actual procedure for dental bridges shouldn’t cause you any pain, however, before treatment starts you will be given a local anaesthetic to numb the area – some patients can find this uncomfortable, but it’s no more than a quick, sharp scratch.

After a bridge has been fitted it’s normal to experience some tenderness and discomfort in the area. This can easily be managed with painkillers and should ease within the first few days.
