National Smile Month

National Smile Mouth National Smile Month

If ever there’s a reason to smile it’s for National Smile Month, which this year runs from 16 May to 16 June.

Organised by the Oral Health Foundation, it’s aimed at promoting – and improving – oral health in the UK.

It started life as a week-long campaign back in 1977 and is now a successful awareness month, supported by the likes of Oral-B, Listerine, and Wrigley.

This year’s theme centres on the belief that everyone deserves a healthy smile – and here at The Smile Clinic, we couldn’t agree more!

The importance of your smile

Good dental hygiene doesn’t just benefit your mouth – it can impact your overall well-being too.

Poor oral health is linked to several health conditions, including:

  • Strokes
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Lung disease

But it’s not just physical. The appearance of your smile can also impact on confidence and self-esteem.

How best to look after your teeth

Sticking to a few basic rules can be a great way to protect and look after teeth. The campaign’s 4 key messages for improved oral health are:

·         Brush at least twice a day for two minutes

Brushing at any time is preferable to skipping a go but the ideal times are first thing in the morning and just before bed – that way your teeth start and finish the day in the right way.

More than 60 million people in the UK don’t have access to fluoridated water, which can help to prevent tooth decay, so try to use fluoride toothpaste if you can.

·         Floss

Getting between teeth is essential as this is where all the nasties try to hide which can wreak havoc on your teeth and gums. Flossing removes trapped particles of food and helps to keep your mouth clean and healthy.

·         Stick to regular dentist appointments

Routine appointments with your dentist will help to keep oral health on track. Not only can they spot problems, they can also identify potential concerns and help you deal with them before they cause an issue.

·         Review your diet

It’s an obvious one but no less important. Try to cut down on how much sugary food and drink you have and make sensible switches – such as swapping sweet snacks for savoury and a few of your daily coffees or fizzy drinks for water.

The importance of visiting your dentist

Prevention is better than cure. We wholly agree with this and actively encourage patients to ensure they maintain regular visits to their dentist and oral hygienist.

The cosmetic dental treatments we offer here at the Smile Clinic are in no way meant as a replacement for a good oral hygiene routine. Rather, we aim to support the care of your teeth and help to restore confidence and pride in your smile’s appearance.

Why you might consider cosmetic dental treatment

One of the key aims of National Smile Month is to motivate people to take better care of their teeth. But this can be easier said than done if you feel like your smile is already past help.

And that’s where we come in. At the Harley Street Smile Clinic, we offer a wide range of cosmetic dental treatments aimed at restoring and enhancing smiles.

Are you living with the repercussions of not looking after your teeth in your younger years? Do you suffer from fluorosis? Perhaps you’ve had an accident and chipped a tooth – whatever the problem, you don’t have to live with it. We have a number of treatment options that can restore your teeth to their former glory.

We do everything we can to ensure that our services are accessible to everyone. That starts by keeping our prices for cosmetic dental treatment competitively low, offering great finance deals and promising a free consultation and quote before you commit to any treatment.

Everyone deserves a healthy, happy smile. So why not take a look at the range of treatments we have on offer or get in touch to talk to the team in more detail about how we can help you?
