Is there a recommended number of veneers?

Strictly speaking, no.  A full set of veneers is generally considered to be between 18 and 20 teeth but as they are fitted individually, the precise number you have is entirely up to you.

That said, there are a few basic recommendations.

Most dentists will advocate fitting veneers in even numbers and generally advise starting with no fewer than 4 as this helps to create a balanced, more natural look.

As the upper front teeth are the most evident when talking and smiling, these are often the teeth people choose to have veneered. A ‘typical’ treatment here at the Smile Clinic, is to have the top 8 teeth veneered. We combine this with whitening and gentle contouring of the lower teeth to ensure the veneers blend in with the rest of the mouth.

What influences how many veneers you have?

There are serval factors that can impact your decision on how many veneers to have. These include:

  • The look you want to achieve

Stunning Hollywood smile or more discreet perfection? The overall look you want to achieve with your smile will influence how many veneers you need.

If you’re targeting a particular problem, this will likely take fewer veneers. If you want to create a flawless smile, then it’s more likely you’ll be looking for a full set of veneers.

  • Your budget

If you only have one problem tooth and your budget is tight, you’ll be keen to keep the number of veneers you have to an absolute minimum, using only the number required to combat the problem area.

  • Your timescales

It goes without saying that the more veneers you have, the longer it will take to fit them. So, whilst we will always do our best to ensure the procedure is carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible, if you’re in a rush, you’ll need to be more conservative with how many you have.

  • The condition of your smile

With multiple chipped, crooked or stained teeth you’re going to be looking at more veneers.

If, on the other hand, your teeth are in pretty good condition, you’ll only be looking at a few targeted veneer placements.

How do I know the right amount for me?

If there’s a particular problem tooth you want covering, or you’re unhappy with the colour or shape of your front teeth, you might already have a rough idea of how many veneers you would like. However, deciding exactly how many veneers are needed to perfect your smile is best left to the professionals.

A cosmetic dentist will be able to tell you how many veneers you need to achieve your desired look. And at the Smile Clinic, we’ll even go one better – send in a picture of your smile, with details of what it is you’d like to change, and we’ll not only get back with our recommendations, but we’ll also offer you a free simulation of how you can expect your newly veneered smile to look.
