Why you should consider Invisalign: A guide to clear braces

Why invisalign is the clear way forward Why you should consider Invisalign: A guide to clear braces

Wish something had been done when you were younger to correct your smile? Feel self-conscious at the thought of wearing braces as an adult? If only there was a discreet solution…

Well, great news – there is!

Invisalign is a revolutionary new system designed to straighten teeth. With a barely-there appearance, clear aligners are used with minimal fuss and maximum effect, to create ‘the smile you want, the way you want it’.

Think it sounds too good to be true? It’s not. Here, the team at The Harley Street Smile Clinic reveal everything you need to know about this advanced straightening system, and why it could be just what your smile’s been waiting for.

What is Invisalign?

We’re glad you asked. Invisalign is a fantastic alternative to traditional braces – and a complete game-changer!

Gone are the wires, bands, and restrictive diet associated with wearing braces. Instead, say hello to the innovative freedom of clear, custom-made aligners. They can be popped in and out easily and are so inconspicuous, no one will ever know you’re wearing them.

Incredibly thin, they are made from a clear thermoplastic material – SmartTrack® – which is patented exclusively for Invisalign use.

How do clear braces work?

Invisalign works in much the same way as a traditional brace, by putting gentle pressure on teeth to nudge them into a more desirable position. However, instead of having unattractive wires and brackets fixed to your teeth, a custom clear aligner is used.

This aligner is then changed every few weeks to keep teeth moving in the right direction until they reach their desired position.

The fact you can remove the aligners means that nothing is off the menu. Simply take out the aligners when you want to eat, and you can still enjoy all your favourite foods.

What can Invisalign help with?

If you’re wondering if Invisalign treatment could work for you, the answer is probably, yes!

Clear braces aren’t just for easy fixes. It’s true that they’re perfect for subtly refining a smile you feel it isn’t quite as flawless as it could be, but Invisalign can also offer effective treatment for tougher cases.

Clear braces can be used to treat:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Crossbite
  • Gaps in teeth
  • Under or overbite

Why you should consider Invisalign: A guide to clear braces

Why choose clear braces?

Invisalign aligners have been used to transform the smile of over 14 million people. If that whopping figure isn’t enough to convince you that clear braces are a great idea, then how about the following?

Invisalign…

  • Reduce self-awareness

With Invisalign clear braces, only you will know you’re wearing them.

  • Are removable

Got an important meeting, first date, or just want to be free of braces for a little while? Invisalign can be removed for up to 2 hours every day. So if you want to take them out, you can!

  • Promote good oral health

Sugar is never good for teeth but if you’re wearing regular metal braces with lots of awkward nooks and crannies, it’s even harder to keep teeth clean. Invisalign are removable, making maintaining good oral health easy.

  • Are comfortable

With clear braces there’s no painful tightening needed, thick roof blocks distorting speech or uncomfortable metal in your mouth – just a barely there, virtually invisible aligner which is easy to wear.

  • Boost confidence

The power of a smile to boost confidence and self-esteem should never be underestimated.

Not only can Invisalign transform your smile, but there’s no need to walk around tight-lipped until treatment is finished. Thanks to their ‘barely there’ appearance, you’ll start to feel more confident about your appearance from the moment you start treatment.

  • Are easy to use

No strict sugar-free diet to protect your teeth. No avoiding hard or overly chewy foods or else risk damage to wires. Clear braces are simplicity at its best. Simply stick to your regular diet and oral health routine and wear your clear braces for the recommended 22 hours per day and you can’t go far wrong.

How long do Invisalign braces take to work?

Wearing Invisalign, you can expect to start seeing results after just 3 months. The average treatment takes around 6 months to complete – although this is dependent on each individual case and the complexities of your smile.

Once you’ve achieved a straighter smile, you’ll want to make sure it stays that way. So, when treatment has finished, it’s important to wear a retainer a night. This prevents teeth from moving back to their original position.

How much are clear braces?

At The Harley Street Smile Clinic, prices for Invisalign treatment start from around £2995.

The exact amount you pay will be based on your specific smile needs and the predicted duration of your treatment.

This may sound like a lot of money, but you can rest assured that we always endeavour to offer fair and competitive pricing. And, where possible,  offer affordable finance options to ensure treatments remain accessible to as many people as possible.

How easy are clear braces to look after?

Caring for braces doesn’t get any simpler than this.

Owing to the fact they are removable (and should be taken out to eat), there’s no need to worry about hard or sticky food getting tangled up or causing damage to wire and brackets – or, even worse, harm to your actual teeth.

Taking good care of Invisalign is quick and easy to do. They come with a special protective pouch so you can store them safely when they’re not being worn. Then all that’s needed is regular rinsing to stay on top of dried salvia and prevent bacteria build-up, and to factor in a couple of extra minutes to your daily oral health routine to make sure the aligners have a good daily clean.

A quick brush with your toothbrush (just remember not to use toothpaste as this can cloud the surface) and a soak with cleaning crystals are all that’s required. Denture cleaning tablets will work a treat, but Invisalign also offer their own specific product.

And that’s it – we said it was easy! If you’d like more handy hints on keeping Invisalign clean and clear, check out our blog on the topic – How to keep your Invisalign clean.

Why opt for Invisalign over traditional braces?

If you’re not keen on the idea of traditional braces, Invisalign is the ideal solution.

Virtually transparent, they are subtle and unobtrusive, so there’s nothing to feel embarrassed or self-conscious about, which makes them a great option if you’re considering braces later in life.

Ideally, you need to wear aligners for 22 hours a day. It makes sense to wear them overnight, while you’re sleeping, leaving you with 2 hours to play with during the day. So, if you’ve got an important meeting, a hot first date, or just an appointment you’d rather not wear them for, you can easily take them out for a little while.

Are there any other treatment options?

There are a wide range of cosmetic treatment options available. Choosing the right one depends on what you’re trying to achieve and the complexity of your current smile.

In many cases, Invisalign aligners are great for correcting minor bite problems and straightening teeth.

If your problems are more complicated, you may benefit more from alternative treatments, which is why you should always seek expert advice before committing.

Results that speak for themselves

Think that just because traditional braces look more industrial, they must be more effective? Think again.

Invisalign uses modern advances in technology to map out the movement of teeth and apply just the right amount of pressure to produce impressive results – the same concept as braces, but carefully honed and refined.
